The woman’s body was found at the scene

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body of a woman in her 50s in County Cavan.

Gardaí (Irish police) said they were called to a house in a rural area, in Ballyconnell, at about 21:30 local time on Saturday.

A man in his 60s was also seriously injured and taken to hospital. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

One man, in his 30s, has been arrested at a separate location.

Post-mortem examination

The woman’s body remained at the scene overnight but has now been taken for post-mortem examination to Cavan General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing. Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.

Anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, on Saturday 11 January, between 20.30 and 21.30, is asked to provide Gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
