Ganwyd Arthur Linton yng Ngwlad yr Haf yn 1868, a phan oedd e’n dair oed symudodd y teulu i Aberaman ar gyrion Aberdâr.

Erbyn ei ugeiniau roedd yn feiciwr o safon, yn ennill rasys ar draws Cymru a Lloegr. Yn 1893 fe gwrddodd â’r hyfforddwr James “Choppy” Warburton, rhywbeth a drawsnewidiodd ei fywyd.

Y flwyddyn ganlynol fe dorrodd record 100km y byd ar sawl achlysur a bathwyd y llysenw ‘Pencampwr y Byd’.

Nid oedd y sylw yma at ddant pawb; cafodd Linton ei feirniadu’n hallt gan feiciwr arall o Aberaman, Jimmy Michael, a bu’r gelyniaeth rhyngddynt yn destun trafod yn nhudalennau cefn y papurau newydd.

Roedd Linton a Michael yn sêr a fyddai’n denu torfeydd o filoedd. Honnodd Michael flynyddoedd yn ddiweddarach ei fod yn medru hawlio $30,000 am ychydig fisoedd o rasio.
