Three men and a woman were treated for injuries following the shooting at Mango nightclub in Birmingham city centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after four people were injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham.

Emergency services were called to the Mango nightclub on Bristol Street at about 03:00 BST where they discovered three men and a woman had been wounded. One of the men is in a critical condition.

The suspect, aged 32, was arrested at about 09:30 and remains in custody.

Three women, in their 20s and 30s, arrested in a car on the M6 in Warwickshire, are also in custody and being questioned on suspicion of violent disorder in connection with the shooting.

The road was cordoned off by police for several hours

Bristol Street – one of the main routes into the city centre – was cordoned off by police for several hours, but reopened on Saturday afternoon.

Acting Ch Insp Michael Clarke appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to contact West Midlands Police.

“This happened in a busy nightclub, on one of the main roads out of Birmingham, so it’s vital that we hear from anybody who saw what happened or who may have captured it on dashcam as they went past,” he said.

“If you were in the club at the time and saw what happened, or recorded any footage from inside the venue, we need to hear from you urgently.”

Dami Milburn and Tom Craft said they were shocked the shooting happened right on their doorstep

Nazrin, who lives nearby, told BBC Newsbeat: “It’s quite baffling, it’s not something you’d expect from this area as it’s so central in Birmingham. In recent memory this is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing happening here.”

Dami Milburn, 26, said: “We were just at home playing some games when we heard a really loud noise and I initially thought it was just someone’s car backfiring.”

Andre Forde said he was surprised to hear about the shooting

Tom Craft, 27, added: “We walk past here every day, it’s scary that something like this is happening so close to where we live.”

“What happened in the club is not super common but it’s not surprising either. It’s usually knives, but this time it was a gun so that part is a bit more surprising, ” Andre Forde, 27, commented.
