Roedd cefnogwyr Newcastle yn cyfeirio at Davies fel ‘Wyn the Leap’ oherwydd ei ddoniau yn yr awyr

Wedi ei ddiweddaru 3 munud yn ôl

Mae cyn-ymosodwr Cymru, Wyn Davies wedi marw yn 83 oed.

Yn ogystal ag ennill 34 cap dros ei wlad, fe chwaraeodd i glybiau yn cynnwys Newcastle United, Manchester City a Manchester United yn ystod ei yrfa.

Yn wreiddiol o Gaernarfon, cafodd plac yn nodi campau Davies ei ddadorchuddio ym Maes Barcer yn y dref yn 2018.

Dywedodd Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru eu bod yn “drist i glywed” am farwolaeth Davies a’u bod yn cydymdeimlo gyda’i deulu a’i ffrindiau.

Dechreuodd Wyn Davies ei yrfa bêl-droed yn chwarae gyda chlybiau lleol yn ardal Caernarfon, gan gynnwys Deiniolen a Llanberis.

Cafodd ei arwyddo gan glwb Caernarfon, ac yno fe ddechreuodd ei ddawn o flaen y gôl ddenu sylw clybiau proffesiynol.

Fe ymunodd â Wrecsam ar ddechrau’r 1960au, cyn symud i Bolton Wanderers ym 1962.

Sgoriodd Wyn 66 gôl mewn 155 gêm gynghrair i Bolton cyn symud i Newcastle United am £80,000 ym 1966 – pris oedd yn record i’r clwb ar y pryd.

Daeth yn arwr ar Barc St James oherwydd ei ymroddiad ar y cae gyda’r Toon Army yn ei alw’n ‘Wyn the Leap’ a ‘The Mighty Wyn’ oherwydd ei ddoniau yn yr awyr.

Fe chwaraeodd Wyn Davies (dde, rhes gefn) 34 o gemau i Gymru

Fe enillodd ei gap cyntaf dros ei wlad ym 1964 mewn gêm yn erbyn Lloegr yn Wembley, a daeth yr olaf yn erbyn Gwlad Pwyl ym 1973.

Treuliodd mwyafrif rhan olaf ei yrfa gyda gwahanol glybiau yng ngogledd orllewin Lloegr.

O Newcastle fe symudodd i Manchester City, cyn arwyddo i Manchester United flwyddyn yn ddiweddarach.

Fe dreuliodd gyfnodau gyda Blackpool, Stockport County, Crewe Alexandra a Cape Town City yn Ne Affrica hefyd.

Bu’n rhaid iddo ymddeol o’r gêm broffesiynol oherwydd anaf i’w ben-glin ond llwyddodd i chwarae llond llaw o gemau i Fangor cyn ymddeol o’r gamp yn gyfan gwbl.

‘Colled anferthol i’r byd pêl-droed’

Dywedodd Malcolm Allen, un arall o ardal Gaernarfon aeth ymlaen i chwarae i Gymru a Newcastle, fod Wyn Davies yn chwaraewr ac yn berson arbennig.

“Ti ddim yn mynd i chwarae i glybiau fel Manchester United, Man City, Newcastle, Bolton ‘sa chdi ddim yn chwaraewr da, a ‘da ni’n gwybod pa mor anodd ydi o i fynd o’r gornel yma o Gymru i fynd ymlaen a serennu yn y byd pêl-droed.

“Pan o’n i’n siarad efo Wyn tro diwethaf i mi weld o, oedd o’n sôn am faint o groeso oedd o’n dal i gael yn Newcastle United, a faint o falchder oedd ganddo fo yn mynd nôl yno ar ôl sgorio gymaint o goliau.

“Mi oedd Newcastle United yn agos iawn i’w galon o… a pan ddes i wybod am ei farwolaeth o, cefnogwr Newcastle wnaeth adael i mi wybod – mae hynny’n dweud y cyfan.”

“Yng Nghaernarfon mae o’n arwr anferthol, fydd neb yn ei anghofio fo yma… Mi oedd o’n ysbrydoliaeth i chwaraewyr eraill yn yr ardal, ac wedi agor y drws mewn ffordd i chwaraewyr eraill gael mynd.

“Fel dyn, roedd o’n fonheddwr, roedd ganddo amser a chariad i bawb ac mae’n golled anferthol i’r byd pêl-droed.”

Wyn Davies yn siarad mewn digwyddiad i ddadorchuddio plac sy’n nodi ei gampau yn 2018

Cyn y seremoni i ddadorchuddio’r plac yng Nghaernarfon yn 2018, dywedodd y trefnydd Alun Davies: “Heb os, Wyn yw’r gorau o unrhyw gamp i ddod o Gaernarfon.

“Nid yn unig mae o’n arwr yma yn ei dref enedigol, ond mae o dal i fod yn ffigwr poblogaidd ymysg cefnogwyr Newcastle United, ar ôl iddo fod yn rhan o’r tîm a enillodd y Fairs Cup yn 1969.”

Dywedodd llefarydd ar ran Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru: “Rydym yn drist i glywed am farwolaeth cyn-ymosodwr Cymru, Wyn Davies.

“Mae meddyliau pawb yn y Gymdeithas gyda theulu a ffrindiau Wyn Davies yn ystod y cyfnod anodd hwn.”
