Milli Alli struck twice after the break as Halifax dented Wrexham’s promotion hopes in the National League.
Elliot Lee drove home Wrexham’s opener, but home keeper Sam Johnson denied them on several other occasions.
Alli first hit back from the edge of the box and again beat Ben Foster midway through the second period while Mani Dieseruvwe added the third.
Notts County went top with a 3-0 win over Wealdstone ahead of visiting Wrexham on Monday, 10 April.
Wrexham are level on 100 points, but dropped to second on goal difference and have a game in hand on County.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:
“First half we controlled the game, scored a good goal, had other chances, but we didn’t deal with Halifax’s attacking players in the second period.
“We had chances to come in more than 1-0 ahead. The goals they scored were too easy and uncharacteristic of us as a team.
“In any game the opposition are going to have periods and you’ve got to come through those periods as a team strong and resilient and we didn’t today.”
