A man has appeared in court after a suspected sulphuric acid attack in Plymouth.
Devon and Cornwall Police said a man in his 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition after an incident at a property on Lipson Road on 21 February at about 03:55 GMT.
Israel Augustus, 25, of Pulford Road, north London, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court charged with applying a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or do grievous bodily harm.
Mr Augustus was also charged with aggravated burglary, possession of an offensive weapon, and drug offences.
The court heard sulphuric acid was used in the assault and the attacker carried a screwdriver.
The 39-year-old victim of the attack remains in a serious condition in hospital, the court was told.
The drugs charges concern the supply of crack cocaine and cannabis, and offering to supply MDMA and ketamine.
Mr Augustus is also accused of possessing a zombie knife at his London home and a knife in Plymouth last month.
He was remanded in custody and will appear before Plymouth Crown Court on 7 April.
