A man from County Donegal who died in a work place incident in Australia has been named locally as Barry Breslin.

Mr Breslin, aged 35, who was originally from Kilcar, died while working in Perth’s northern suburbs.

According to The West Australian News outlet, he sustained serious head injuries after he was hit by the arm of an excavator. He was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Perth Hospital but passed away a short time later.

Mr Breslin was a father of one and is understood to have been living in Australia for a number of years.

The Department for Foreign Affairs said it was ready to provide assistance to Mr Breslin’s family but did not comment on individual cases.

A tribute from his local GAA club in Kilcar said the whole community is in shock following Mr Breslin’s passing and said he would be fondly remembered.

“CLG Chill Chartha would like to express our sincerest condolences to Barry’s Fiancée Melissa, his son Tommy, his parents Seamus and Mary, to his brothers Owen and Shane and to all his family and his many, many friends.

“It was a great shock to us all when the news reached us this morning of the untimely passing of Barry in Australia.

“Barry played underage for the club for many years and is fondly remembered by the players and all who were involved at the time and to his mother Mary, a tireless volunteer and supporter of our club over the years, our hearts go out to you and your family and we pass on our prayers to you all at this sad time.”
