A solar storm which hit the Earth on New Year’s Day brought the first strong display of the Northern Lights across Wales in 2025.
Images of bright purple and pink coloured aurora were captured from Denbighshire to Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, and Swansea on Wednesday night.
Purple northern lights are less common than green or red aurora and are caused by nitrogen atoms in the atmosphere being bombarded by the strong solar wind.
Last year was one of the best years on record for Northern Lights in Wales as the 11-year solar cycle reached its peak.
It is expected to slowly subside this year before picking up again in the mid-2030s.
BBC Weather Watchers, readers and viewers sent in photos of the lights after they shimmered over the Welsh skies.
