Flowers were left at the scene of the crash in the Borders on Sunday

Three people who died at the weekend in a crash involving two motorbikes in the Borders have been identified by police.

Andrew Lartey, 29, and his pillion passenger Georgia Tate, 23, both from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, died in the accident between Bonchester Bridge and Carter Bar on the A6088 on Sunday.

The rider of a second motorbike, Jason Gibbon, 37, from Northumberland, also died in the incident.

They were among eight people who were killed in four road crashes across Scotland over the weekend.

The families of Mr Lartey and Ms Tate have issued a joint statement via police.

“We are devastated by the loss of Georgia and Andrew, they will be sorely missed by all who knew them,” it said.

“We ask for our privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

Mr Gibbon’s family said they had lost a “much loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and devoted friend to many”.

“He will be greatly, sadly missed,” they said in a statement.

“We are comforted by the messages from many.

“We would like to ask for privacy to allow the family to grieve at this very difficult time. “

Weekend accidents

Sgt Barry Sommerville said the thoughts of Police Scotland were with the family and friends of the three people who died.

He said inquiries were ongoing and they were continuing to appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

The crash in the Borders was one of a number of fatal accidents on Scotland’s roads at the weekend.

Candice Adam, from Dalry in Ayrshire, died after her motorbike crashed on the A83 in Lochgilphead, Argyll and Bute on Sunday.

Two earlier car crashes claimed the lives of three young men in their 20s near Falkirk, and a 37-year-old man in South Ayrshire.
