The presenter and comedian is co-owner of a chain of bakeries

Comedian and presenter Romesh Ranganathan has tried his hand working behind the counter in a bakery.

A large queue formed in Dorking High Street in Surrey on Thursday morning to meet the award-winning comic before he moved on to another bakery in his home town of Crawley in West Sussex.

Mr Ranganathan, who is a vegan, had been in partnership with Coughlans Bakery to design a vegan treat, the Ranga Yum Yum.

The comedian, who became a co-owner of the bakery chain in 2024, said he was “absolutely buzzing” and it was “the partnership of the century”.

The comedian told BBC Radio Surrey: “It was nice to meet people. I just wanted to get involved.

“The crowds are better than my tour show.”

Co-owner Sean Coughlan said the Ranga Yum Yum had become “such a hit that it is now a permanent fixture at the bakery”.

The comic became a supporter of the business eight years ago as he was impressed with their range of plant-based products, according to Mr Coughlan.

He was partly responsible for the bakery setting up in his home town in 2024 at which point he became a part-owner of the business.

Mr Coughlan said: “Romesh is working behind the counter because he wants to know more about the business. He loves it.

“The other day he had a go at making products and he said he ‘just had the best day’.

“He is so down to earth, humble and genuinely one of the nicest guys I ever met.”

The bakery said it was donating 10p from every Ranga Yum Yum sold to Calm, a suicide prevention charity.

Mr Ranganathan is now working with bakers to create another sweet treat which is still under wraps.
