A viable pipe bomb has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast.
Police were called to reports of a suspicious object in Areema Drive in Dunmurry at 12:40 GMT on Friday.
A number of nearby homes had to be evacuated and residents were only able to return when the security alert ended late on Friday evening.
The pipe bomb was made safe by ammunition technical officers and was taken away for further examination.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland statement said: “We appreciate that people were out of their homes for most of Friday as this public safety operation was conducted and we thank people for their patience during this time.”
They are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
