Two men have died and another is in a critical condition, after a car entered the River Corrib in Galway.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed (Irish police) said they received reports of a car in the water at Menlo Pier, near Galway city, on Saturday at about 02:40 local time.<\/p>\n
The men were removed from the water and taken to University Hospital Galway, they added.<\/p>\n
Two of the men have since died. The third man is described as being in a critical condition. <\/p>\n
The scene at Menlo Pier has been preserved for examination and forensic collision investigators have been requested, garda\u00ed added.<\/p>\n
Padhraic \u00d3 Fathaigh, who lives close to the pier, told Irish broadcaster RT\u00c9 he heard a siren and voices at about 03:00.<\/p>\n
He said he saw a “black car overturned in the water and multiple vehicles including fire engines and ambulances”.<\/p>\n
“Gardai were trying to pull the car from the water with a rope,” he added.<\/p>\n
“It’s just tragic.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
