A man has been shot dead on a street in the Kirkby suburb of Liverpool, police say.<\/p>\n
Merseyside Police said a murder investigation was under way after the 36-year-old was shot on Quarryside Drive on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
The victim – who has not yet been named – was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead a short time later, police said. <\/p>\n
The shooting took place near Liverpool FC’s training ground.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cA murder investigation is under way this evening following an appalling and tragic incident in which a man has lost his life after he was fatally shot,” Detective Superintendent Mark Drew said in a statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n “Our thoughts first and foremost are with his family, who are trying to come to terms with his loss.”<\/p>\n Police said the family had been informed and would be supported by specialist family liaison officers.<\/p>\n The shooting happened on Quarryside Drive at around 18:35, the force said. <\/p>\n Extensive CCTV enquiries are under way in the area and house-to-house inquiries are taking place. Forensic examinations are also being carried out at the scene of the crime.<\/p>\n Det Supt Drew called on the public to contact police if they witnessed the attack, and asked people to check their CCTV, dashcam devices or doorbell footage for anything suspicious. <\/p>\n \u201cThere is no room for guns on the streets of Merseyside and we will do everything within our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.<\/p>\n \u201cMy message to those involved in gun crime and serious organised crime is clear \u2013 Merseyside Police will never rest, we are relentless in our pursuit of those involved.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
