Dearbhaile mum Brigid, sister Sarah and grandfather Brian were in Paris for her games debut<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

The mum of teenage Paralympic swimmer Dearbhaile Brady has said her family is \u201cstill in a bit of a buzz\u201d after her daughter’s personal best swim in Tuesday’s final.<\/p>\n

Dearbhaile, who is making her Paralympic debut in Paris at just 17 years old, finished fifth in the final of the S6 women\u2019s 50m butterfly final.<\/p>\n

The swimmer from Feeney, County Londonderry, has Hypochondroplasia – a form of dwarfism- and was just 0.16 seconds off of a bronze, while Ireland team-mate Nicole Turner was sixth.<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC Radio Foyle\u2019s North West Today <\/a>programme, Brigid Brady said her daughter performed incredibly well and their whole family could not be prouder of her performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Brother Matthew is also in Paris supporting his older sister<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

“She has done us all really proud as a family, and she has done herself really proud,\u201d Brigid said. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe came out to get into the final \u2013 she achieved that and has come out with a personal best as well,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think people have actually realised the level she is performing at, she is a high performance athlete, a European medallist. <\/p>\n

“We talk about it, but seeing it on TV is different\u2026 seeing it, hearing it, believing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brigid added that she has really enjoyed the games in Paris and she is excited for the future and “for what\u2019s to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family, Brigid said, snatched a \u201cquick five minutes\u201d together after the final.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
