{"id":42646,"date":"2024-09-16T10:26:48","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T10:26:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/school-support-staff-in-northern-ireland-accept-pay-deal\/"},"modified":"2024-09-16T10:26:49","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T10:26:49","slug":"school-support-staff-in-northern-ireland-accept-pay-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/school-support-staff-in-northern-ireland-accept-pay-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"School support staff in Northern Ireland accept pay deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">School support workers, including bus drivers, classroom assistants and canteen staff, have accepted a pay deal following consultation with unions. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Education Minister Paul Givan confirmed the agreement and has welcomed the news.    <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Support workers had gone on strike in recent months due to a <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ckmjj4mjjmgo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">long-running dispute <!-- --><\/a>over pay and job grading.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The support staff unions, GMB, Nipsa, Unison and Unite accepted the deal from the Education Authority (EA) following consultations with members over the summer. <!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">In June, Nipsa and Unison <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cv222w24v2wo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">encouraged their members to accept a new pay deal<!-- --><\/a>. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The deal, which affects about 20,000 staff, includes the regrading of staff, backdated to 1 April, and a one-off lump sum payment of \u00a32,500 to every member of staff, coming in the next financial year.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">It should also lead to pay rises for the staff, who are among the lowest paid in the education system with some currently earning less than \u00a312 an hour.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Givan said the agreement would &#8220;provide relief to our school support staff who will appreciate the benefits of this significant investment in pay&#8221;. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;They deserve to be paid appropriately for the extremely important work they do,&#8221; he said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Givan said the restructured pay scales would improve recruitment and retention of staff in the future. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Sinn F\u00e9in&#8217;s education spokesperson Pat Sheehan said it was &#8220;great news that unions and the Education Authority have reached an agreement to pay educational support staff a fair wage&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Sheehan said the finance minister, Caoimhe Archibald, and the education minister &#8220;worked constructively to find a resolution&#8221;. <!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c5y5572r52xo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School support workers, including bus drivers, classroom assistants and canteen staff, have accepted a pay deal following consultation with unions.
