{"id":47056,"date":"2025-01-17T12:04:45","date_gmt":"2025-01-17T12:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/digger-sinks-in-great-dunmow-doctors-pond-during-maintenance-work\/"},"modified":"2025-01-17T12:04:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-17T12:04:47","slug":"digger-sinks-in-great-dunmow-doctors-pond-during-maintenance-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/digger-sinks-in-great-dunmow-doctors-pond-during-maintenance-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Digger sinks in Great Dunmow Doctors Pond during maintenance work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A digger has become stuck in the silt-filled pond it is supposed to be repairing.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Work was being done to &#8220;desilt and repair&#8221; the Doctors Pond in Great Dunmow, Essex, when the excavator sank, the town council said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">It reassured residents &#8220;every effort&#8221; was being made to rescue it &#8220;as quickly and safely as possible&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;The town council is working closely with contractors and specialists to minimise any potential disruptions,&#8221; a <!-- --><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/greatdunmow-tc.gov.uk\/doctors-pond-0125\/\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<!-- --><\/a> said.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Doctors Pond, in the town centre, is reputedly named after an <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/essex\/content\/articles\/2008\/08\/05\/dunmow_doctors_pond_feature.shtml\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">18th Century doctor<!-- --><\/a> who bred leeches and kept them in the pond for medical use.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">It is also claimed to have been the location where Lionel Lukin, the inventor of an unsinkable lifeboat, first tested out his creation.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The desilting project was estimated to take between three and four weeks when it started in October, but soon ran into delays.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;I cannot remember seeing a worse shambles than this,&#8221; said resident Tony Clarke, who moved to Dunmow in 2004.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;The council could be responsible for running up a very big bill indeed to put this matter right.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Fish were safely removed from the pond at the start of October, with fencing installed and the water pumped into the River Chelmer.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">However, &#8220;environmental pressures&#8221; and &#8220;logistical challenges&#8221; stalled the project, which the council said required a &#8220;significant financial investment&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Mr Clarke, a builder and civil engineer, said in his opinion there was no quick fix to the stuck-in-the-mud digger.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">He said the contract to complete the project, including extensive remedial works to surrounding public open spaces, could &#8220;now take many months&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cqldd07x6xyo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A digger has become stuck in the silt-filled pond it is supposed to be repairing.
