A man has appeared in court after a suspected sulphuric acid attack in Plymouth. <\/p>\n
Devon and Cornwall Police said a man in his 30s was taken to hospital in a serious condition after an incident at a property on Lipson Road on 21 February at about 03:55 GMT.<\/p>\n
Israel Augustus, 25, of Pulford Road, north London, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court charged with applying a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or do grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n
Mr Augustus was also charged with aggravated burglary, possession of an offensive weapon, and drug offences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The court heard sulphuric acid was used in the assault and the attacker carried a screwdriver.<\/p>\n
The 39-year-old victim of the attack remains in a serious condition in hospital, the court was told.<\/p>\n
The drugs charges concern the supply of crack cocaine and cannabis, and offering to supply MDMA and ketamine.<\/p>\n
Mr Augustus is also accused of possessing a zombie knife at his London home and a knife in Plymouth last month.<\/p>\n
He was remanded in custody and will appear before Plymouth Crown Court on 7 April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
