A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was shot dead in south Wales.<\/p>\n South Wales Police said officers were called to a report of a shooting on Green Park in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf, at about 18:10 GMT on Sunday. <\/p>\n The force confirmed a 40-year-old woman was found with serious injuries and died at the scene.<\/p>\n A 42-year-old man from Talbot Green has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A number of crime scenes have been set up in the area as inquiries continue and road closures remain in place as officers gather evidence.<\/p>\n Det Ch Insp James Morris said: “I understand the concern this will cause the local community, and I want to reassure people that a team of experienced detectives are already working at pace to piece together the events of last night.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Residents in the town said there had been a significant response from the emergency services, with police vehicles heading to the area at speed with their blue lights on. <\/p>\n A police helicopter arrived over Talbot Green – a town 10 miles north-west of Cardiff – at 18:30 on Sunday and circled the area before later returning to its base in St Athan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Residents have expressed their shock at the incident.<\/p>\n Calum Williams, who lives just a few houses from the incident, said he heard the gunshot.<\/p>\n “It’s terrible. I live just two doors down from where it happened. I was making a bottle for the baby and I heard a gunshot. <\/p>\n “It’s pretty frightening, especially with the baby.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Carloyn Pugh, who lives nearby, said she heard the police helicopter hovering last night.<\/p>\n “It was scary. Within seconds, they [police] were everywhere,” she said.<\/p>\n “You didn’t know what was happening but you knew there was something bad.<\/p>\n “I’ve been here about 28 years and it was never like this.”<\/p>\n Local resident Anthony Dando, 59, was shocked by the incident.<\/p>\n “We’ve had trouble around here before but never with a gun. It’s frightening that sort of thing happens so close to your front door,” he said.<\/p>\n “It’s shocking to hear what happened to the girl.
