Ed Sheeran has been announced as a surprise performer at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.<\/p>\n
The Shape of You star will be playing on the New Music Stage on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
After rumours of a “big name” guest circulated around Sefton Park in Liverpool, Radio 1 posted on their Instagram that it was “the one and only” Ed Sheeran.<\/p>\n
In the video, Breakfast presenter Greg James describes it as “the best surprise we could possibly have done”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Sheeran last played at Big Weekend in Coventry in 2022.<\/p>\n
He is currently on tour, and will be supported by Stargazing singer Myles Smith later this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
More than 100,000 fans are expected to attend Big Weekend in Liverpool, which will have about 100 acts performing across four stages.<\/p>\n
The rest of the weekend will see Sam Fender headline on Saturday evening and Mumford & Sons on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Tom Odell, Sugababes, Myles Smith and Wolf Alice will also be playing the Main Stage on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Tate McRae, Lola Young, Jorja Smith, Wet Leg and HAIM will be hitting the Main Stage on the final day of the festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
