{"id":55726,"date":"2025-05-29T14:01:49","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T14:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/douglas-ross-questions-holyrood-neutrality-after-fmqs-ejection\/"},"modified":"2025-05-29T14:01:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T14:01:51","slug":"douglas-ross-questions-holyrood-neutrality-after-fmqs-ejection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/douglas-ross-questions-holyrood-neutrality-after-fmqs-ejection\/","title":{"rendered":"Douglas Ross questions Holyrood neutrality after FMQs ejection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Former Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross has questioned the neutrality of Holyrood&#8217;s presiding officer after he was ordered to leave the Holyrood chamber. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ross was <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/live\/c4g6w5y9r16t\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">ejected from First Minister&#8217;s Questions<\/a> at the Scottish Parliament for talking over John Swinney as he was answering a question. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ross told BBC Scotland News that he had &#8220;serious questions&#8221; about Alison Johnstone&#8217;s conduct and said she should &#8220;seriously consider her neutral role&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He also claimed the presiding officer had allowed SNP and Green MSPs to behave in a way that she did not extend to Conservative members.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Highlands and Island MSP said that it was &#8220;unprecedented&#8221; for him to be sent out without a warning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ross was told that he would not be allowed back in to Holyrood&#8217;s debating chamber for the rest of the day. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Outside the debating chamber, Ross told BBC Scotland News that he would seek to speak to the presiding officer and her officials. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;I have serious questions about the conduct of the presiding officer,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Ross has had a number of clashes with the presiding officer over recent weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He is not the first MSP to be temporarily suspended from Holyrood. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Tory colleague Oliver Mundell was ordered out by former presiding officer Ken Macintosh in 2020 for claiming Nicola Sturgeon had lied to parliament over the Alex Salmond inquiry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In 2015, Labour&#8217;s James Kelly was booted out by Tricia Marwick in a row about a point of order which she contended wasn&#8217;t a point of order relating to the UK Trade Union Bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Scottish Parliament has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c9917g8knn8o\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross has questioned the neutrality of Holyrood&#8217;s presiding officer after he was ordered to leave the Holyrood chamber.
