Scotland’s Hamish Stewart missed out on a place in the Wimbledon men’s singles after losing out to Leandro Riedi in the qualifying event at Roehampton.<\/b><\/p>\n
The 25-year-old from Strathblane, ranked 550 in the world, had come through four matches to reach the last 32 but was beaten 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-4 by the Swiss.<\/p>\n
The 16 players left standing, including England’s Oliver Tarvet, progress to the main draw at SW19.<\/p>\n
Stewart, who played Junior Wimbledon in his teens, had come through a nail-biting deciding tiebreak with Luca Van Assche on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He also beat former British Davis Cup player Liam Brody along the way.<\/p>\n
Against Riedi, who has had two knee surgeries over the past 12 months, there was a rain delay at 4-4 in the fourth set.<\/p>\n
“I was so nervous, I was shaking,” the Swiss 23-year-old told BBC Sport. “I spoke to my coach and he just told me just to keep going.<\/p>\n
“I started so well after the rain and I’m so happy. It’s one of the best moments of my life.”<\/p>\n
Wimbledon begins on 30 June, with Scotland’s Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie competing in the men’s singles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
