Part of the M60 has been closed in both directions after an eight-vehicle pile-up, police have said. <\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were initially called to reports of a crash involving three lorries, two cars and a van at about 11:30 BST.<\/p>\n

National Highways said the M60 would remain closed for a “substantial amount of time” because of the amount of damage to motorway infrastructure and vehicles, as well as debris and spillage on the carriageways.<\/p>\n

Motorists attempting to travel between junction 25 for the Bredbury Interchange and junction 1 for the Pyramid Roundabout in Stockport are being urged to use signposted diversions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Motorists have been warned to expect delays of an hour in both directions. <\/p>\n

National Highways said one lorry had driven through the central reservation and hit several lamp posts, while another had shed its load of beer barrels.<\/p>\n

The North West Ambulance Service said three people had been taken to hospital for further treatment, while six others were assessed for minor injuries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
