Four people have been taken to hospital and a major incident declared following a multi-vehicle crash in north Wales.<\/p>\n
Police were called to the scene on the A55 near Pentre Halkyn, Flintshire, at 15:21 BST on Saturday after a lorry travelling in the eastbound carriageway collided with two westbound vehicles.<\/p>\n
One person with serious injuries was airlifted, and another taken by road, to hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. Two people were also taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Rhyl, Denbighshire, by ambulance.<\/p>\n
The lorry driver \u2013 a 58-year-old man – was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The road remained closed in both directions for several hours while North Wales Police officers from the forensic collision investigation unit carried out their initial investigation.<\/p>\n
One lane in both directions of the A55 re-opened shortly before midnight and a 40mph speed restriction is now in place.<\/p>\n
Sgt Danielle Ashley of the roads crime unit said the force was appealing for witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
