{"id":79177,"date":"2026-07-03T04:56:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T04:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/pubs-allowed-to-stay-open-until-5am-for-england-mexico-match\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T04:56:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T04:56:50","slug":"pubs-allowed-to-stay-open-until-5am-for-england-mexico-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/pubs-allowed-to-stay-open-until-5am-for-england-mexico-match\/","title":{"rendered":"Pubs allowed to stay open until 5am for England Mexico match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Pubs in England and Wales will now be allowed to stay open until 05:00 on Monday, allowing football fans to watch the Three Lions&#8217; World Cup clash with Mexico to the final whistle.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The round-of-16 match in Mexico City kicks off at 01:00 UK time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The government had initially said it would not relax licensing laws further than they already have been for the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But in a U-turn later on Thursday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said pubs could stay open until the final whistle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Monday&#8217;s match is not expected to finish until at least 03:00.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sir Keir said the decision was good news for both supporters and pubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Football might be coming home but we&#8217;re making sure fans don&#8217;t have to,&#8221; he said on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Publicans and businesses welcomed the change. Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said: &#8220;We all know the best place to watch the match is down the local.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Michael Kill, chief executive of the Night Time Industries Association, said it was &#8220;fantastic news&#8221; that would be &#8220;hugely welcomed by operators&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Greene King pubs said more than 600 of its venues across England would stay open for the game, including in Birmingham, Bristol, London, Carlisle, Liverpool and Folkestone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ce8jw1w1674o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Licensing hours had already been extended<\/a> for the World Cup from 23:00 to 01:00 for games with kick-offs from 17:00 up to 21:00 and up until 02:00 for kick-offs between 21:00 and 22:00.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The original opening hour extensions followed a six-week public consultation which opened in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Individual pubs normally have to apply to their local council for extended opening hours, at least five working days in advance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c1kyr8747m9o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pubs in England and Wales will now be allowed to stay open until 05:00 on Monday, allowing football fans to watch the Three Lions&#8217; World Cup clash with Mexico to the final whistle.
