A man who lives close to the site of a bonfire has said he has been quoted a price of just under \u00a3800 to fit protective boarding over his windows.<\/b><\/p>\n

Tim McCullagh said he and other residents were sent a letter by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) telling them they would deliver boards to houses close to the Churchill Park bonfire in Bangor.<\/p>\n

However, only NIHE properties will also have them fitted.<\/p>\n

In statement, the Housing Executive said: “We have offered protective boarding to both Housing Executive tenants and other residents and if individuals have any issues we would urge them to contact us and we will seek to provide a resolution.”<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC NI’s The Nolan Show<\/a>, McCullagh said: “This bonfire is going to cause damage potentially to properties.<\/p>\n

“Why is it allowed? Why do people have to pay out of their own pockets to protect their own properties?<\/p>\n

“This happens every year, so if it happens every year clearly they know this is going to be an issue. Why isn’t it regulated better?”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
