{"id":79714,"date":"2026-07-11T05:39:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T05:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/meta-pulls-new-ai-image-feature-after-days-of-backlash\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T05:39:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T05:39:31","slug":"meta-pulls-new-ai-image-feature-after-days-of-backlash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/meta-pulls-new-ai-image-feature-after-days-of-backlash\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta pulls new AI image feature after days of backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Meta has abruptly taken down a new feature that allowed people to use its artificial intelligence (AI) tool to make fake images from user content on Instagram. <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The feature was part of a broad rollout of Muse Image, a new AI image generation tool Instagram&#8217;s parent company<b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\"> <\/b>released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It allowed users of the Meta AI chatbot<b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\"> <\/b>to tag public-facing accounts on Instagram and quickly use content on those accounts to create AI-generated or altered content and images. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The feature quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cp9lee19y1yo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">sparked blowback<\/a> due to privacy concerns, leading Meta to admit it had \u201cmissed the mark&#8221; so it was<b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\"> &#8220;<\/b>no longer available\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Muse Image was the tech firm&#8217;s first foray into AI image generation but faced backlash as Instagram users were opted in by default. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It meant that anyone with a public account could have their likeness used without their knowledge or permission. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hollywood union Sag-Aftra described the U-turn as a &#8220;win&#8221;. It had previously urged its members and &#8220;all Instagram users&#8221; to take action to protect their likeness stating that there had been an &#8220;utter miscalculation of public sentiment regarding the obvious dangers and harms inherent in such use&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The London-based human rights charity Privacy International had also criticised the feature, telling the BBC it was &#8220;the latest sign AI companies see people&#8217;s images and data as raw material to be exploited&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cOur intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way,\u201d Meta added in its decision to pull the feature. \u201cWe&#8217;ve heard the feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2026\/07\/introducing-muse-image-meta-ai\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">When Meta announced Muse Image<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a>, the firm said it was limited to Instagram, but more AI features and integrations were planned for WhatsApp, Facebook and Messenger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also has an AI video tool in development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Meta declined to make any further comment. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c2dy6e8klw0o?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meta has abruptly taken down a new feature that allowed people to use its artificial intelligence (AI) tool to make fake images from user content on Instagram.
