{"id":81115,"date":"2026-08-08T03:59:51","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T03:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/jason-arday-queens-university-belfast-to-investigate-work\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T03:59:53","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T03:59:53","slug":"jason-arday-queens-university-belfast-to-investigate-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/news\/jason-arday-queens-university-belfast-to-investigate-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Jason Arday: Queens University Belfast to investigate work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Queen&#8217;s University Belfast (QUB) is investigating work it published that was co-authored by Prof Jason Arday, who has <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c05q0nznq24o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">resigned from his University of Cambridge roles<\/b><\/a><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\"> following allegations of plagiarism.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The paper, published in 2021,  looked at the impact of what was taught in universities on &#8220;Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) learners&#8221; and &#8220;academics of colour&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Queen&#8217;s had published a paper on its academic research site co-authored by Arday and other academics from the university.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Arday is facing accusations of fabricating or exaggerating elements of his CV. He has defended himself and his work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a statement to BBC News NI, a spokesperson for QUB said: &#8220;We are aware that Professor Arday&#8217;s research, co-authored with academics from Queen&#8217;s, is published on our academic research platform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We are currently looking into the matter and liaising with other UK universities in relation to it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The paper is called &#8220;Attempting to break the chain: Reimaging inclusive pedagogy and decolonising the curriculum within the academy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The centrality of whiteness as an instrument of power and privilege ensures that particular types of knowledge continue to remain omitted from our curriculums,&#8221; the work said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Part of the work was based on interviews with students and staff, who are quoted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;When you think about our curriculum it is actually very white and in many respects quite exclusionary,&#8221; one female student, described as &#8220;mixed-heritage,&#8221; said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Talking about race and racism\u2026 and decolonising the curriculum is really difficult\u2026 especially in a classroom space,&#8221; a black male student said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The paper recommended changing the curriculum in universities to make it more inclusive and less &#8220;Eurocentric&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ckgvxlwe50yo?at_medium=RSS&#038;at_campaign=rss\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Queen&#8217;s University Belfast (QUB) is investigating work it published that was co-authored by Prof Jason Arday, who has resigned from his University of Cambridge roles following allegations of plagiarism.
