before having to purchase additional cloud play time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Xbox said the limits were due to the rising cost of cloud gaming, and they would allow the firm to &#8220;continue to invest&#8221; in the service&#8217;s &#8220;reliability and performance&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">While some <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DarthPedro99\/status\/2095588975176274039\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">questioned<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> whether the service was used by many to begin with, others <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/whostolemy_cat\/status\/2095569449717743893\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">called out<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> the additional limits for subscribers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cloud gaming allows players to stream and play games online from a remote server using a phone, tablet or controller, rather than downloading and running it on a PC or console at home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Different tiers of subscription to Game Pass will have different limits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Premium users will get 10 hours, while those on the basic Essential tier will get five hours a month before they have to pay for extra time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Xbox claimed just 4% of the people who use Games Pass &#8211; its Netflix-style subscription plan for games &#8211; use its cloud gaming service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/microsoft-layoffs-xbox-59e7f6df\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">recent Wall Street Journal article<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> reported Game Pass has 30 million subscribers, which would leave the number of people affected by the cloud gaming changes at roughly 1.2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This is a pretty awful change, hopefully Xbox adds an extra zero on the end cause 15hrs is abysmal. 30 minutes a day, really?&#8221; posted <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BlueQuoGG\/status\/2095560444521947580\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">one commenter on X<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jez Corden of Windows Central told the BBC the announcement showed that &#8220;absolutely nothing is safe from the AI-driven component crisis,&#8221; but he added it also highlighted &#8220;where Microsoft&#8217;s priorities are&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Both cloud gaming and AI use data centres to process information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;For them to continue to offer unlimited access to Microsoft Copilot [AI] for free but restrict paid cloud gaming in this way shows some contradiction,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.xbox.com\/en-us\/2026\/09\/03\/xbox-cloud-gaming-changes\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Xbox said in a blog post<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-i2z2ig-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> that from November, users would also be able to use the company&#8217;s cloud gaming feature without subscribing to Game Pass, but by buying &#8220;cloud playtime hours&#8221;
