Food factory workers on strike over pay have said the industrial action could impact the supply of some leading UK brands, including Fridge Raiders and Richmond sausages.<\/b><\/p>\n
Workers at the Pilgrim’s Europe food production plant in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, want fairer pay and for staff to be paid equally for breaks.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Pilgrim’s Europe said there were no product shortages and that the company had “already made a number of above-inflation pay offers” which had been rejected by Unite.<\/p>\n
Noreen Daly, the Unite representative for the factory workers, said the action would be an “all out long-term strike”.<\/p>\n
“Nobody wants to be on a picket line, these guys want to be in at work earning their money, getting on with their lives, but we feel we have no choice but to be here to get through to management until they come back with a decent offer,” she said.<\/p>\n
The strike began on 2 September.<\/p>\n
Unite said it marked an escalation of the industrial dispute, following three weeks of previous strikes.<\/p>\n
Daly said the company was replacing the skilled workers on strike with inexperienced workers so she believed production at the factory would slow down.<\/p>\n
“It will have a major impact because all our skilled workers are out on the line,” she said. <\/p>\n
“They have workers in there being bussed from different factories, but they don’t have the skill that these guys have.<\/p>\n
“The morning shift there’s 50 of them out here and they’re all skilled workers. So it has to impact production massively.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
