We asked our readers to send in their best pictures on the theme of “winter walks”. Here is a selection of the photographs we received from around the world.

Roland Trope A man and a woman in winter coats and hats walk in a snowy landscape. They are on a path in a park and there are trees, people and dogs in the background. Both the man and the woman are looking down.Roland Trope

Roland Trope: “An overnight snowfall continued in the early daylight hours. Wind gusts blew snow off tree branches. I took this photo of a couple walking by who looked like they could walk for hours in the falling snow.”

Adam Harrison Monochrome picture of ice crystals on flowers.Adam Harrison

Adam Harrison: “I actually went for a quick walk to capture the sunset over the local canal but misjudged the time completely. The ice scenes just down the road were a nice alternative though.”

Stephen Lodge A tabby cat paws at the camera. It is looking directly at the camera while standing on a snow-covered table in a garden. There is a fence, some shrubbery and a flower pot behind the cat.Stephen Lodge

Stephen Lodge: “Scout joining us on a walk in the snow.”

Mike Crompton A dog leaps in the snow. It is looking directly at the camera and is on a blue lead. The dog appears to be jumping over thick snow.Mike Crompton

Mike Crompton: “Bublik the Corgi taking his first walk in the snow.”

Lewis James Davies A lone leaf hangs of a bare tree. The leaf is dry and shrivelled and orange and looks like it is just about to fall from the tree. The background is blurred but it looks like a sunny day.Lewis James Davies

Lewis James Davies sent in this frame taken during an early morning walk.

Sirsendu Gayen A woman feeds pigeons in a foggy street. The woman is in a red coat and she is carrying a long, black umbrella. The red of her coat stands out against the rest of the image which is monochrome and shows birds all around the woman, on the ground and in the air. There is a chalet-style building to the right of the woman.Sirsendu Gayen

Sirsendu Gayen: “A morning walker feeding the pigeons on a foggy winter morning.”

Ian Hawley Close-up picture of a woman wearing blue woollen gloves. The woman, who has long red hair and a blue woollen hat on, is holding her hands over her face, as if trying to warm them with her breath. She is wearing glasses and is looking directly at the camera.Ian Hawley

Ian Hawley: “Wrapping up warm.”

Clare Keegan A close-up of a metal bird bath covered in frost. The bird bath has a little metal bird attached to it and the bird is also covered in a thin layer of frost.Clare Keegan

Clare Keegan: “The early bird wasn’t catching any worms a couple of weeks ago.”

Thierry Meyrat Skiers on a conveyer belt at Grindelwald, Switzerland. The skiers are in a line heading up an incline. There are snow-capped mountains behind them.Thierry Meyrat

Thierry Meyrat: “At the foot of the Eiger, Switzerland, skiers go up a hill on a conveyer belt. Strange pilgrimage, as they look like walkers who do not move in a naive art painting.”

Sandhya Bhattaram Birds on a frozen pond. They are flying in all directions, their wings outstretched, as if panicked. The river bank is behind them and there are trees and buildings in the distance. It is a sunny day with a clear blue sky.Sandhya Bhattaram

Sandhya Bhattaram: “The sight of the frozen pond in Richmond, London, gives the birds cold feet.”

Carlos Gomez LLata A woman in a sunhat walking along a beach on a sunny day. The image shows her walking away from the camera. The sea is calm and turquoise and the sky is blue and cloudy.Carlos Gomez LLata

Carlos Gomez LLata sent in a different type of winter: “Winter walk in Runaway Bay, Antigua.”

Leonardo Fugoso Jr A black and white image of a road junction covered in snow. There is a shop on the right called 'Skin Prints' and cars driving up a snow-covered road on the left. A man is walking down the steep road, near the shop.Leonardo Fugoso Jr

Leonardo Fugoso Jr: “Walking downhill in Wisconsin could be treacherous.”

Fiona Smail Sheep shelter behind a stone barn in a snowy landscape. There is a snow-covered mountain in the background.Fiona Smail

Fiona Smail: “Sheep venturing out into the snow from the comfort of their barn in St John’s in the Vale. It was a lovely day when the sun shone bright and the sky was a pale shade of winter blue.”

Hang Ross A line of five deer cross a road as snow falls.Hang Ross

Hang Ross: “Fallow Bucks in a snow storm in the New Forest.”

Mick Bennett A monochrome picture of a man's bare footprint in snow.Mick Bennett

Mick Bennett: “Morning coffee always involves a barefoot stroll in the garden – no exception. Warm hands holding coffee cup, cold feet on the crisp, frozen snow.”

Evelyn Oakley A woman walks on a snow-covered road with tyre tracks and footprints in front of her. The tyre tracks have made a pattern in the snow. The image is black and white.Evelyn Oakley

Evelyn Oakley: “A woman taking a walk in the fine snow adds her own pattern to those already drawn by departing vehicles and earlier walkers.”

Alice Cumberton A duck comes close to the camera, eyeing it suspiciously. The duck is on dry land but there are other ducks in a lake behind it. There are hills in the background.Alice Cumberton

Alice Cumberton: “Smile for the camera.”

Tom Cotsford A profile picture of a robin perched right at the top of a tree. It is quite a rotund robin. The sky is grey and the robin is looking into the distance.Tom Cotsford
