Australia’s Minjee Lee leads the Women’s Scottish Open by one shot after carding a bogey-free, five-under 67 on the rain-interrupted first day at Dundonald Links.
Wet conditions in Ayrshire led to delays, with 42 golfers on the course when play was suspended shortly after 21:00 BST.
By then, Lee had edged ahead of Megan Khang of the United States and South Korea’s A-Lim Kim, who are tied for second.
England’s Lily May Humphreys is also on four under but had only played 12 holes by the time play was halted.
Twelve golfers are on two under, including English trio Bronte Law, Charley Hull and Georgia Hall, while Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh opened with a four-over 76.
New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, fresh from winning gold in Paris for her third Olympic medal since 2016, posted a three-under 69 that featured five birdies.
Leader Lee, a two-time major champion and on the hunt for her first victory of 2024, went out on two under before adding birdies at the 10th, 14th and 18th, the latter two par fives.
“I like the creativity of links golf,” Lee said. “Obviously there was a lot of wind today so it was playing like a true links course.
“I didn’t find it fun to play. Just when you execute correctly, you get rewarded.”
