Viv Anderson, Ian Wright, Patrick Viera, Thierry Henry, Bukayo Saka – Arsenal’s list of black icons is a long one.

For Dr Clive Chijioke Nwonka that history transcends the pitch and the bricks and mortar of the club, finding its way into the “spaces of black cultural density – be it our workplaces, barbershops and churches”.

The University College London professor has co-edited a new book called Black Arsenal which includes testimonies and photography from those who have felt a connection with the north London side.
