Boxing: Katie Taylor hails Tiah-Mai Ayton as “future of boxing” after knockout win

Katie Taylor says Tiah-Mai Ayton can become the greatest female boxer of all time after the 19-year-old secured her second stoppage win on Saturday.

Bristol’s Ayton turned professional aged 18 in June and defeated Lydie Bialic in her second bout in Sunderland.

Two-weight undisputed champion Taylor is considered a strong contender for greatest of all time, but was full of praise for the young English bantamweight.

“I don’t think we’ve seen a talent like this in a long time,” Taylor told DAZN.

“This is the best female boxer in the world right here. This is the future right here. It’s a privilege to watch such a talent.

“I can’t believe she’s just turned 19 years of age. This is scary.

“She’s like a seasoned pro in there. I learned from watching her fight – amazing performance.”

Ayton knocked down Bialic in the third round and drew blood from the Frenchwoman’s nose in the fourth.

Bialic hit the deck again after a barrage of heavy right hands, prompting the referee to stop the fight.

Ayton was not the only teenage boxer to impress on the undercard of the Pat McCormack-Miguel Parra fight, as bantamweight Adam Maca and heavyweight Leo Atang also produced stoppage wins.

Maca, 18, knocked Francisco Rodriguez down in the fourth and final round of their contest, before the Spainard’s corner threw in the towel.

Atang, 18, made short work of Cristian Uwaka, blasting away his fellow Briton in just one round.

Also on the undercard, Sandy Ryan bounced back from successive defeats to Mikaela Mayer to claim her first win since March 2024.

Ryan dropped her welterweight world title to Mayer and then lost the rematch in March.

But the Derby fighter began her rebuild with a win by defeating Jade Grierson by unanimous decision to claim her eighth career win.
