NFL Dublin: When is the match and who is playing in it?

The NFL’s first regular-season match in Dublin will take place on Sunday, 28 September, when the Minnesota Vikings face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It will make Dublin the fourth European city to host an NFL fixture after London, Munich and Frankfurt.

This will be the Vikings’ fifth international match, while the Steelers will be playing in their second.

Pittsburgh have won four of their past six meetings – dating back to the start of the 2001 season.

Their last meeting was in 2021, when the Vikings won 36-28.

Where will NFL’s Dublin match be held?

Croke Park – Ireland’s largest stadium – will host the game.

The Dublin venue is the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and the home of Gaelic games. It has also hosted rugby union and football matches as well as staging concerts.

In the 1990s, the stadium hosted a pre-season American Football match between the Chicago Bears and the Steelers.

When will the match kick off?

The match between the Vikings and Steelers will start at 14:30 BST.

That means it should finish – or be close to finishing – as Sunday’s matches in the US get under way.

The three matches in London in October will kick off at the same time.

Who should you watch out for?

The Steelers have veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the helm this season.

Rodgers, 41, has thrown seven touchdown passes across his first three appearances of the season, and is regarded among the sport’s all-time greats.

For the Vikings, wide receiver Justin Jefferson scored 10 touchdowns last season and opened his account for 2025 with a score against the Chicago Bears.

Why are they playing in Dublin?

Since its first-regular season game outside the United States in 2007, the NFL has regularly taken matches across the globe in order to give fans the chance to see teams play nearer to them.

Of the 39 games held in London, all have had more than 60,000 spectators in attendance – with the majority watched by more than 80,000 fans.

Ireland is one of a number of countries outside of the United States with a well-stablished NFL fanbase.

Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host NFL matches in London in October

Ireland is the fifth country outside the US to host an NFL match – after England, Mexico, Germany and Brazil.

Spain will host its first match in November, when the Washington Commanders face the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, with Australia staging a game in 2026.

What are the other NFL international games coming up?

After the trip to Ireland, the NFL heads to London for three consecutive Sundays.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host meetings between the Vikings and the Cleveland Browns, and the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.

The final match in London is being held on October 19, when the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars meet at Wembley.

In November, Berlin will host its first regular-season match – between the Atlanta Falcons and the Indianapolis Colts – and a week later the Commanders and the Dolphins face off in Madrid.
