Barcelona will host Paris St-Germain next week in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the Champions League – but it won’t be taking place at the Nou Camp.

After months of uncertainty surrounding the £962m (€1.1 billion) redevelopment of their historic home, Barcelona have confirmed that their second group stage match will instead be held at the city’s Olympic Stadium.

Barcelona played at the ground on Montjuic hill during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

“The club continues to work intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Camp Nou in the coming months”, Barcelona said.

The city council turned down their request for an essential permit on Tuesday, with the city’s fire department saying there were problems with evacuation routes and other safety issues.

However, Barca’s operations director Joan Sentelles told reporters during a tour of the stadium on Tuesday that “just because it’s not finished, [it] doesn’t mean it’s not safe.”

Sentelles also said the roof will be put on the stadium in the summer of 2027 – a year later than originally planned.
