Liverpool forward Chiesa is the highest profile absentee from Arne Slot’s 22-man squad., external

Clubs can name up to 25 players, with a maximum of 17 who were not “locally trained”.

Seventeen-year-old forward Rio Ngumoha, who scored a dramatic winner at Newcastle last month, has been selected.

New signings Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman are in the squad for the six-time European Cup winners.

Midfielder Dowman, 15, has been named in Arsenal’s 23-man squad,, external but there is no place for injured striker Gabriel Jesus.

Should Dowman, who was born on 31 December 2009 and made his Premier League aged 15 years and 234 days last month, play before his 16th birthday he will become the youngest player to appear in the Champions League.

Winger Ethan Nwaneri and defender Myles Lewis-Skelly are missing, but they can be named on squad list B – made up of players who are under 21 and have been eligible for the first team for at least two years.

Jesus is recovering from a knee injury sustained in January.

Arsenal’s eight senior summer signings have been named, including Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.

France midfielder and summer signing Rayan Cherki has been picked by Pep Guardiola despite being expected to be sidelined for two months with injury.

New arrivals Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders and James Trafford are also in.
