Shane Lowry is “ready to go” for his third Ryder Cup after being selected by Europe captain Luke Donald.
The Irishman was edged out of the last automatic spot by Rasmus Hojgaard at the British Masters but was one of Donald’s six wildcard picks for the away assignment at Bethpage Black in New York from 26-28 September.
Hojgaard is the only change to the European team from 2023 victory over the USA in Rome with Donald opting for continuity.
Lowry is now set to play in his third Ryder Cup and will use this week’s Irish Open and next week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth to fine tune his game.
“At this stage of my career it feels like it’s at the forefront of my mind,” he told BBC Sport NI’s Stephen Watson.
“I was a little bit jumpy as Rasmus just passed me there last week, but thankfully I got the call off Luke and I’m ready to go.
“You want to be going in with confidence and showing the captain you can play as many games as he wants you to play. It is important to play well over the next few weeks, but it’s not the be all and end all.
“It’s about getting some good feelings and feeling comfortable with your game. Then when it gets to Bethpage, it will be all guns blazing trying to win the Ryder Cup again.”
