Gloucester have put their “best foot forward” to keep Argentina full-back Santiago Carreras amid speculation about him leaving the club this summer, director of rugby George Skivington has said.

Versatile Carreras has been with the Cherry and Whites since December 2020, initially playing in both wing positions, and has made more than 75 appearances.

The 26-year-old, who can also play at fly-half, has been one of Gloucester’s stand-out players in recent seasons and scored his fourth try of the campaign in the win against Leicester on Saturday.

“I haven’t got any comments on the future of Santi,” Skivington told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

“It’s up to Santi what he does, we’ve put our best foot forward and that will be up to Santi.”

Carreras has been capped 53 times by the Pumas since his debut in 2019.

“He’s obviously a man in demand and certain things come with that and that’s the nature of the beast,” Skivington added.
