I just [have to] try my best I guess.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-8.0\">Somerset-born Williams came away from the Commonwealth Games two years ago with three medals, including another gold in the 4x100m medley relay and a silver in the 100m backstroke. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-9.0\">He says he watches the races back almost every month as were so integral to his career, for both him and his family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-10.0\">&#8220;It&#8217;s built a lot of confidence for me, especially on the international stage. I know that I can get amongst the medals now, it&#8217;s just doing it with the Commonwealths and adding a few more countries in there,&#8221; Williams said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-11.0\">&#8220;It&#8217;s done me a lot of good and I&#8217;m just looking forward to moving it on.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"gs-u-mt0 gs-u-mb-alt+ story-body__media story-body__media--figure qa-story-body-media\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$image-12\"><span class=\"gs-u-display-block story-body__media\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$image-12.0\"><span class=\"gs-u-display-block gs-o-responsive-image\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.25%;\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$image-12.0.0\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"gel-brevier gs-u-ph+ gs-u-pv-alt story-body__media__caption story-body__media__caption--image\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$image-12.1\">Williams is aiming for a good performance at the World Championships, which take place a year before the Paris Olympics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-13.0\">Williams made his Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021 and finished 15th in the 200m backstroke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-14.0\">He trains under esteemed coach David McNulty, at the British Performance Centre in the University of Bath &#8211; where team-mates include Olympic champions Tom Dean and Freya Anderson &#8211; and said the gaps in his performance that he is trying to bridge are much smaller now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-15.0\">&#8220;They&#8217;re coming down, it&#8217;s more little margins now. You get to the point where it&#8217;s small differences that make a bigger result,&#8221; Williams said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-16.0\">&#8220;It&#8217;s not like when you were young and could jump in the pool and drop 10 seconds. Things are getting there, it&#8217;s just the plan that Dave puts in training into the race.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-17.0\">Yet with the Olympics in Paris now exactly a year away, Williams&#8217; preparations are ramping up even further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-18\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-18.0\">&#8220;That year going into the Olympics you really have to switch on, and it&#8217;s almost like that is your life that year. It is the Olympics and getting ready for it,&#8221; Williams continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-19\"><span data-reactid=\".qm00lyjijk.0.0.0.1.$paragraph-19.0\">&#8220;It just takes some more dedication than we already provide. I&#8217;ll basically be devoting my life to swimming, even more so.
