Rory McIlroy will play in the Irish Open when the tournament returns to Royal County Down in September. <\/b><\/p>\n

The world number two missed the cut when the Irish Open was last played at the Newcastle links course in 2015.<\/p>\n

McIlroy’s sole victory in the event came at the K Club in 2016. <\/p>\n

The four-time major winner, 34, finished joint 16th at the K Club in 2023<\/a> with Sweden’s Vincent Norrman winning by a shot to claim his second DP World Tour title. <\/p>\n

This year’s Irish Open will take place 12-15 September. <\/p>\n

McIlroy has opened his 2024 season in fine style, successfully defending his Dubai Desert Classic title<\/a> on Sunday after finishing runner-up to Tommy Fleetwood in the inaugural Dubai Invitational the previous week. <\/p>\n

Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen won when Royal County Down staged the tournament in 2015, beating England’s Eddie Pepperell and Austrian Bernd Wiesberger in a play-off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
