{"id":13637,"date":"2024-02-13T23:09:40","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T23:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/world-aquatics-championships-2024-great-britain-miss-out-on-medals-as-adam-peaty-qualifies-for-50m-final\/"},"modified":"2024-02-13T23:09:41","modified_gmt":"2024-02-13T23:09:41","slug":"world-aquatics-championships-2024-great-britain-miss-out-on-medals-as-adam-peaty-qualifies-for-50m-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/world-aquatics-championships-2024-great-britain-miss-out-on-medals-as-adam-peaty-qualifies-for-50m-final\/","title":{"rendered":"World Aquatics Championships 2024: Great Britain miss out on medals as Adam Peaty qualifies for 50m final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Adam Peaty qualified for the men&#8217;s 50m breaststroke final but Great Britain missed out on medals in two finals on day three of the World Championships.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Peaty, 29, swam 26.85 seconds to qualify for Wednesday&#8217;s final in Doha.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Fellow Britons Lauren Cox and Kathleen Dawson finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women&#8217;s 100m backstroke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Meanwhile, Duncan Scott finished sixth in the men&#8217;s 200m freestyle final on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 26-year-old recorded a time of one minute 45.86 seconds in the event in which he won silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Compatriot Tom Dean took gold on that occasion but did not compete in Qatar, with several of the world&#8217;s top swimmers opting not to participate in the Worlds and instead train for this summer&#8217;s Paris Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, double Olympic champion Dean did make a brief appearance on Sunday &#8211; as part of Britain&#8217;s 4x100m freestyle relay team along with Jacob Whittle, Matt Richards and Scott as they qualified for an Olympic quota spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Another Briton, Jack McMillan, did not feature in the 200m freestyle final after going out in the heats on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Peaty, the world record holder in the 50m event, is competing at his first Worlds in five years after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/swimming\/65372330\" class=\"ssrcss-co0e25-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">taking breaks to deal with periods of depression and problems with alcohol.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He recorded a time of 27.23 in the heats but later improved on that in the semi to qualify in fourth and will go for a 12th world medal in the final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Australia&#8217;s Sam Williamson (26.41), Italy&#8217;s Nicolo Martinenghi (26.65) and America&#8217;s Nic Fink (26.77) were the three fastest qualifiers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Three-time Olympic champion Peaty had marked his return to the world stage with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/swimming\/68277139\" class=\"ssrcss-co0e25-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Later, Britain&#8217;s Cox swam the 100m backstroke in 59.60 with Dawson finishing in one minute 0.42 seconds while American Claire Curzan (58.29) took gold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Both will also feature in the 50m backstroke heats on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cox, 22, took world bronze in that event last year while 26-year-old Dawson was part of Team GB&#8217;s 4x100m mixed medley team that won gold and smashed the world record in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Max Litchfield missed out on qualification for the men&#8217;s 200m butterfly final, swimming one minute 56.93 seconds in his semi-final to finish 12th, four places outside the final spots.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/swimming\/68288320\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Peaty qualified for the men&#8217;s 50m breaststroke final but Great Britain missed out on medals in two finals on day three of the World Championships.
