One person died and 21 others were wounded<\/a> in the incident on Wednesday evening. <\/p>\nThousands of fans had gathered to celebrate the Chiefs’ second successive Super Bowl title.<\/p>\n
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City,” the Chiefs said.<\/p>\n
“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally.<\/p>\n
“At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.<\/p>\n
“We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.” <\/p>\n
Police said they have arrested three suspects in connection to the shooting.<\/p>\n
Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying “Praying for Kansas City” while his team-mate Travis Kelce said that he was “heartbroken”. <\/p>\n
“My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC [Kansas City], you mean the world to me,” said Kelce. <\/p>\n
Fellow Chiefs player Charles Omenihu called for stricter gun laws in the US. <\/p>\n
“Prayers for those affected at today’s parade. A time of celebration ends in tragedy,” he wrote on X.<\/p>\n
“When are we going to fix these gun laws? How many more people have to die to say enough is enough?”<\/p>\n
The NFL described the shooting as “senseless”, and said it was “deeply saddened” by the events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
