{"id":15644,"date":"2024-04-03T03:16:03","date_gmt":"2024-04-03T03:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/adam-peaty-qualifies-for-paris-olympics-with-statement-win-at-aquatics-gb-swimming-championships\/"},"modified":"2024-04-03T03:16:04","modified_gmt":"2024-04-03T03:16:04","slug":"adam-peaty-qualifies-for-paris-olympics-with-statement-win-at-aquatics-gb-swimming-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/adam-peaty-qualifies-for-paris-olympics-with-statement-win-at-aquatics-gb-swimming-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Peaty qualifies for Paris Olympics with statement win at Aquatics GB Swimming Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The winner of each event at this week&#8217;s championships effectively secures one of two Olympics places for each event, as long as the swimmer matches the qualification time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Commonwealth champion <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">James Wilby<\/b> took silver behind Peaty but his time was 0.02secs outside the Olympic qualification time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Elsewhere,<b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\"> Keanna MacInnes<\/b> produced a shock in the 200m butterfly by pipping 2024 world champion <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Laura Stephens<\/b> to secure her place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She won the title in a Scottish record time of two minutes 7.24secs, but with Stephens also under the qualification time 0.13secs behind both are likely to compete in France. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Freya Colbert<\/b> won the 200m freestyle but said she is unlikely to race the event in Paris because of a clash with the 400m individual medley &#8211; which she won at the World Championships earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Colbert&#8217;s win secured her a place on the 4x200m relay team while <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Abbie Wood <\/b>was also under the qualification time in second, meaning she is likely to race the event at the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Kieran Bird<\/b> swam a lifetime best to win the men&#8217;s 400m freestyle but his effort of 3:45.63 was an agonising 0.2secs outside the Olympic qualifying time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The British championships are also fully integrated with the Para events, though Paralympic qualification takes a different format. Swimmers compete in mixed-classification races, then they are ranked in relation to their times to select a full squad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a competitive women&#8217;s 200m Para-freestyle race, five swimmers &#8211; <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Poppy Maskill<\/b>, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Olivia Newman-Baronius<\/b>, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Louise Fiddes<\/b>, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Jessica-Jane Applegate<\/b> and <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Suzanna Hext<\/b> &#8211; were all under the qualification time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Maskill took the title to put herself in pole position for a place in Paris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Elsewhere in the Para-swimming events, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Sam Downie<\/b> won the 400m freestyle title, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Grace Harvey<\/b> the 50m butterfly, <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Lyndon Longhorne <\/b>the 150m individual medley and <b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Harry Stewart<\/b> the 100m breaststroke, although all four were outside the initial qualification time for the Paralympics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/swimming\/68713971\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The winner of each event at this week&#8217;s championships effectively secures one of two Olympics places for each event, as long as the swimmer matches the qualification time.
