{"id":17483,"date":"2024-05-16T14:03:08","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T14:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/queens-club-womens-tournament-announced-for-2025\/"},"modified":"2024-05-16T14:03:09","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T14:03:09","slug":"queens-club-womens-tournament-announced-for-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/queens-club-womens-tournament-announced-for-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Queen\u2019s Club: Women&#8217;s tournament announced for 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">A women\u2019s tournament will return to the Queen\u2019s Club for the first time in more than 50 years in 2025 following discussions with the ATP about the impact on the men\u2019s event the week after.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Male players raised concerns about the quality of the grass courts they will inherit at the historic venue in west London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The ATP has requested a review take place after next year\u2019s inaugural two-week event, but the LTA says it is \u201cvery confident it will be a permanent move&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cWe have reassured the ATP on multiple occasions that there won\u2019t be an impact on the integrity and performance of the court,\u201d said LTA director of major events Chris Pollard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cThe ATP want a review at the end of the 2025 tournament. Our focus remains on delivering a really successful tournament and we therefore remain very confident it will be a permanent move, and the ATP will continue to support us in hosting a women\u2019s and men\u2019s event at the Queen\u2019s Club into the long term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The LTA says it has studied weather conditions, the density of the soil and potential wear to areas of the court, such as the baseline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, there will be fewer available courts for men who arrive early to practise and prepare for the qualifying event, which will take place on the final weekend of the WTA tournament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The women will play at Queen\u2019s in the week immediately after the French Open. The LTA hopes that will raise the profile of the women\u2019s game and increase the visibility of the sport at the beginning of the grass-court season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Last year only five of the world\u2019s top 20 players competed in the week after Roland Garros, but the LTA believes the \u201ciconic venue and pristine grass\u201d of Queen\u2019s will tempt more to play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prize money will be lower for the women\u2019s tournament, even though both events will have \u2018500 status\u2019 and take place at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIt\u2019s a very complex situation given that prize money ultimately is set by the WTA and the ATP,\u201d Pollard explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cWe are delighted that the WTA are moving to an equal prize money basis. Ultimately the men\u2019s tournament at Queen\u2019s currently is the only profitable tournament the LTA runs &#8211; the other tournaments at this point in time aren\u2019t commercially successful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cI am not aware that across the WTA Tour season there is a precedent for another WTA Tour event unilaterally increasing prize money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The WTA 250 event at Nottingham will move back a week so that in future it follows the women\u2019s tournament at Queen\u2019s, and the Edgbaston Priory Club will lose the WTA event it first staged in 1982, when Billie Jean King won the title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It will instead replace Surbiton as host of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s Challenger tournaments played in the first week of the grass-court season, as the French Open is coming to a boil at Roland Garros.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Eastbourne will still stage a combined event in the week before Wimbledon, but the WTA tournament there will be downgraded to 250 status, which means greater restrictions on who can enter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As a WTA 500 event is staged in Germany in the same week, no top-10 player will be allowed to enter Eastbourne &#8211; unless they are British, the defending champion, a Grand Slam champion or former world number one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/tennis\/articles\/c0klklqr7dyo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A women\u2019s tournament will return to the Queen\u2019s Club for the first time in more than 50 years in 2025 following discussions with the ATP about the impact on the men\u2019s event the week after.
