{"id":20819,"date":"2024-08-07T12:43:28","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T12:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/olympic-marathon-heat-and-hills-in-way-of-eliud-kipchoge-and-history\/"},"modified":"2024-08-07T12:43:30","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T12:43:30","slug":"olympic-marathon-heat-and-hills-in-way-of-eliud-kipchoge-and-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/olympic-marathon-heat-and-hills-in-way-of-eliud-kipchoge-and-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic marathon: Heat and hills in way of Eliud Kipchoge and history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">When Kipchoge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/olympics\/58132919\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">crossed the finish line in Sapporo, Japan<\/a>, three years ago he matched the achievements of successive Olympic marathon champions Abebe Bikila (1960 and 1964) and Waldemar Cierpinski (1976 and 1980).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Kenyan no longer holds the world record over 26.2 miles (42.195km), with his mark bettered by the late <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-africa-68274984\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">Kelvin Kiptum<\/a> last October, but is \u201cfighting for history\u201d as he looks to surpass the men from Ethiopia and East Germany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cI want to go into history books, to be the first human being to win back-to-back-to-back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Back in April, Kipchoge said his \u201chuge expectation\u201d was to win in Paris despite finishing 10th at March&#8217;s Tokyo Marathon \u2013 his lowest ever competitive placing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIt will put more pressure [on] and a lot of expectations are there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIf I lose a marathon then I\u2019ll get disappointed. But then I go back and start the journey again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On the rare occasions Kipchoge does not top the podium \u2013 which has happened just three times since the start of 2014 &#8211; he draws inspiration from challenges which other elite sportsmen have endured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He cites the examples of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes this season and former UFC title-holder Francis Ngannou being knocked down in a boxing match by Anthony Joshua in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cYou can be in good shape but that one punch can knock you out and finish you in one second,\u201d Kipchoge added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIt\u2019s not about losing.
