Zambia striker Barbra Banda and Malawi’s Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa have been named on the five-strong shortlist to become African Women’s Footballer of the Year.<\/b><\/p>\n
Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and Morocco forward Sanaa Mssoudy round out the contenders.<\/p>\n
The winner will be announced at the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Awards in Marrakesh, Morocco, on Monday, 16 December.<\/p>\n
Temwa Chawinga and Banda were the top two scorers in America’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) this season, with the Malawi forward netting 21 goals to Banda’s 17.<\/p>\n
However, the Zambian bagged the winner in the championship final to fire Orlando Pride to the NWSL title, and was voted the BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n Lyon’s Tabitha Chawinga led the scoring charts in the French top flight last season, while Paris FC’s Nnadozie was named as the division’s best keeper.<\/p>\n AS FAR’s Mssoudy won the award for the best player at the Caf Women’s Champions League, although she had to settle for a runners-up medal as AS FAR were beaten by TP Mazembe in the final.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
