{"id":23453,"date":"2024-12-07T10:53:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-07T10:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/deshaun-watson-nfl-ends-investigation-into-cleveland-browns-qb-over-sexual-assault-claim\/"},"modified":"2024-12-07T10:53:32","modified_gmt":"2024-12-07T10:53:32","slug":"deshaun-watson-nfl-ends-investigation-into-cleveland-browns-qb-over-sexual-assault-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kede.com.br\/sport\/deshaun-watson-nfl-ends-investigation-into-cleveland-browns-qb-over-sexual-assault-claim\/","title":{"rendered":"Deshaun Watson: NFL ends investigation into Cleveland Browns QB over sexual assault claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">The NFL has ended its investigation into the latest sexual assault allegation made against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 29-year-old was under investigation after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/american-football\/articles\/cpvy9ev9vjgo\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">filing of a civil lawsuit in September<\/a> from a woman in Texas, seeking $1m (\u00a3764,000) in damages for an incident that allegedly occurred while the pair were on a date in October 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Watson denied the allegation and the lawsuit was settled confidentially.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/american-football\/articles\/clywd5q9rkko\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">NFL subsequently conducted its own investigation<\/a> but announced on Saturday it would take no formal action against Watson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There was insufficient evidence to support a finding of a violation of the personal conduct policy,&#8221; a league spokesperson <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/deshaun-watson-nfl-browns-c3b88a274089a07eba9daa4a67663833\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\">told the Associated Press.<span class=\"visually-hidden ssrcss-1f39n02-VisuallyHidden e16en2lz0\">, <!-- -->external<\/span><\/a> &#8220;The matter is closed.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Watson&#8217;s lawyer Rusty Hardin told the Washington Post: &#8220;We are delighted to put this issue behind us so that Deshaun can concentrate on recovering from his injury and preparing for next season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Watson was suspended by the NFL for the first 11 matches of the 2022 season after 24 civil lawsuits were filed against him during his time with the Houston Texans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He faced multiple accusations from women of sexual assault and misconduct during massage sessions between March 2020 and March 2021. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The NFL fined Watson $5m (\u00a33.9m) under its personal conduct policy and he was suspended without pay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Watson denied the allegations, and two grand juries ruled there was not enough evidence to charge him. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He later reached confidential settlements with 23 of the 24 women in the summer of 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Watson has not played since October after sustaining a season-ending Achilles injury. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He has featured just 19 times for the Browns since his move in 2022, because of suspensions and injuries. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/american-football\/articles\/c2lddexp7j7o\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NFL has ended its investigation into the latest sexual assault allegation made against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
