Duncan Scott broke the British record by two and a half seconds as he claimed gold in the 400m freestyle at the short course World Cup event in Singapore.<\/b><\/p>\n
The Scot finished in three minutes 34.46 seconds to break the previous record set by James Guy in 2014 and move up to second in the all-time list.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old took gold ahead of American Kieran Smith and Pan Zhanle of China.<\/p>\n
“The 400m free is still an event I’m learning,” Scott said. “And I don’t really have any fear about what’s going to happen. And, yeah, I’m really happy with that.”<\/p>\n
Scott finished second in the men’s 200m short course medley behind Leon Marchand, who raced to victory in a world record time of 1:48.88.<\/p>\n
The Frenchman broke Ryan Lochte’s 12-year-old record by 0.75 seconds and was more than two seconds clear of Scott, with Alberto Razzetti of Italy third.<\/p>\n
Scott will also race in the 200m freestyle in Singapore, the third and final meet of this year’s World Cup.<\/p>\n
Marchand earlier became just the second man, after Caeleb Dressel, to break 50 seconds in the 100m individual medley.<\/p>\n
Marchand, who won four gold medals at the Olympics in Paris during the summer, swam 49.92 to move up to second on the all-time list.<\/p>\n
American Kate Douglass broke her own world record set just last week in the 200m breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Douglass swam 2:12.72, one and a half seconds quicker than the record she set at the World Cup meet in South Korea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
