Ireland’s Nathan Wiffen swam a personal best time of 14:32.65 as he finished ninth in the 1500m freestyle on his World Championships debut in Budapest.<\/b><\/p>\n
Wiffen shaved over six seconds off his previous best of 14:38.75 as he finished sixth in his heat and ninth overall.<\/p>\n
Twin brother of Olympic gold and bronze medallist Daniel, Nathan will return to the pool on Thursday for the 400m freestyle heats.<\/p>\n
Ireland’s Ellen Walshe was also in action and set a number of new personal records.<\/p>\n
She finished fifth place in the 200m individual medley with a new record of 2:05.52. <\/p>\n
In the same race USA’s Kate Douglass set a new world record to win the final in 2:01.63.<\/p>\n
Walshe also finished 14th overall in the semi-finals of the 50m butterfly with a new record of 25.45 and is back in action on Thursday in the 100m individual medley.<\/p>\n
However, it was a disappointing day for Olympian Danielle Hill, as she failed to progress past the heats of the women’s 100m backstroke, finishing 19th overall.<\/p>\n
She returns to the pool on Wednesday in the 100m freestyle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
