The Genesis Invitational will be held at a different location next month because of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the PGA Tour has announced. <\/b><\/p>\n
The tournament, which is organised by the Tiger Woods Foundation and takes place 13-16 February, was scheduled to be played at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades, California. <\/p>\n
However, the area has suffered the most destructive fire in LA history, burning more than 23,000 acres and devastating the community. <\/p>\n
Organisers have yet to confirm a new venue but said they would provide further updates in the coming days.<\/p>\n
The Genesis Invitational is one of eight PGA Tour signature events in 2025 and has a $20m (\u00a316.3m) prize purse. <\/p>\n
In a statement announcing the relocation, the PGA Tour said its “focus continues to be on the safety and wellbeing of those affected by the unprecedented natural disaster in Greater Los Angeles”. <\/p>\n
It added: “We are grateful for the lifesaving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires.”<\/p>\n
Riviera Country Club is the long-time home of the Genesis Invitational – formerly known as the Los Angeles Open – and is also set to host the men’s and women’s tournaments at the LA Olympics in 2028. <\/p>\n
Tiger Woods said safety, plus the wellbeing of those affected, was the priority for event organisers. <\/p>\n
“As of right now we’re not really focused on the tournament,” said the 15-time major winner.<\/p>\n
“It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling, who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
